Occupancy Intelligence for Space Optimization

Introduction

Occupancy Intelligence for Space Optimization allows workplace and facilities leaders to improve employee experience by using real-time occupancy data to adapt their most valuable spaces with confidence. Capture what’s happening in every workspace and use VergeSense AI to generate insights that drive more effective decision-making. Only VergeSense captures passive occupancy, which makes up 50% of all space use, along with active occupancy and people count so you can create cost-efficient workspaces that enhance your teams’ experiences. You are also offered the flexibility of wired and wireless area sensors, so it’s designed to work in both new builds and existing spaces.

Area Sensors

VergeSense offers two models of area sensors: the wireless L302 sensor and the wired E106 sensor.  Both capture all of the activity in your workspaces with the industry’s best accuracy, so your spaces are being analyzed by the most accurate sensors on the market.

These sensors cover a wide area of your office floor, measuring person count, and active and passive occupancy of the spaces in that area so you will have a true understanding of how your spaces are actually being used.

These area sensors serve as the foundation for our Occupancy Intelligence for Space Optimization solution.

Wireless Area Sensors (L302 Model)

Our wireless area sensor offers best-in-class battery life, enterprise-ready scalable connectivity, easier installation, and real-time data collection and reporting. Accessing the best data for better decision-making has never been easier.

Gateway devices connect to the sensor mesh network to transfer textual data to the cloud. Gateways utilize a cellular or corporate backhaul for cloud connectivity.

Wired Area Sensors (E106 Model)

Wired area sensors are most commonly used in new buildouts in order to reduce damage to existing structures, but also can be used in existing buildings if you are looking for a battery-free solution.

The E106 is our newest area sensor, delivering an increased field of view, up to ~40% larger than our previous model, with exceptional low-light performance so even when your spaces aren't perfectly lit, you'll still have a true understanding of the people and objects occupying your spaces.

Capture

The capture layer of the Occupancy Intelligence for Space Optimization Platform is built on a network of our L302 wireless sensor and the E106 wired sensor. Previous models for this platform include the L208, as well as the E104 and E105.
These sensors capture accurate and anonymous data about people count, occupancy, and objects within spaces with 95% accuracy so you will have data you can rely on from proven technology that is hardened and future-proofed.

Computer Vision

All VergeSense sensors leverage computer vision technology to accurately identify the shapes and coordinates of people and objects occupying your spaces. Through computer vision, our Occupancy Intelligence for Space Optimization solution is the only solution on the market that has the ability to recognize and capture the difference between human beings and common objects.

With computer vision, our sensors anonymously measure what is happening, not faces, words, or personally identifiable information, so you can feel confident your teams’ privacy is always protected. VergeSense uses E.L.S. (edge-processing, low resolution, secure) optical technology to ensure that what’s captured by our sensors is destroyed on the device.

Analyze

The analyze layer of Occupancy Intelligence for Space Optimization generates a true understanding of how your spaces are actually being used by contextualizing insights from the capture layer. This means that you can reduce the amount of time spent trying to make sense of data and spend more time using actionable insights to optimize your workplace for cost savings and improved employee experience.

VergeSense AI

VergeSense AI is an artificial intelligence engine that analyzes the data captured from our capture layer and third-party sources to generate actionable insights through a cloud-based application and developer tool kit. VergeSense AI helps you find the truth within your data and gain a true understanding of how your spaces are actually being used so you'll understand how your spaces are being used, and when.

People Count

VergeSense AI continuously analyzes your data to generate a true understanding of people count at scale across your entire portfolio so you can stop relying on low-fidelity WiFi tracking, badge data, manual studies, and assumptions.

Active Occupancy

Capture how and when your spaces are occupied by people so you can understand what spaces are frequently (and infrequently) used, powering confident space design, planning, cleaning, and availability decisions.

Passive Occupancy

Only VergeSense captures and analyzes passive occupancy. VergeSense is the first and only solution that recognizes the presence of common objects such as a laptop, bag, or jacket.  This is known as passive occupancy, and VergeSense uses AI-powered Signs of Life technology to capture and analyze it.

Platform Updates

VergeSense AI learns your spaces and consistently gets smarter over time as it analyzes the relationship between your people, objects, and spaces. Weekly software updates ensure you have the latest technology to take command of your occupancy.

Cloud Portal

Understand the trends across your portfolio and within your spaces. Our Cloud Portal synthesizes behavioral data into high-impact, actionable insights that are accessible through use case-specific dashboards or our open API so you can make important space decisions with confidence. Integrate VergeSense occupancy data with third-party workplace applications to enable and orchestrate critical workflows.

Open APIs

Easily access occupancy data through our Open APIs so you can make powerful decisions with your own tools. Access all of the data that VergeSense has captured and analyzed to leverage the BI tools and data infrastructure your team uses to make decisions.

Insights Dashboards

VergeSense organizes historical and real-time data into curated dashboards so you can easily analyze what’s happening and optimize your portfolio and workspaces with confidence. People count insights aggregated across your portfolio, buildings, and floors provide a true understanding of people count, active occupancy, and passive occupancy so you can create cost-efficient workspaces that enhance your teams’ experiences.

Integrations

With 45 out-the-box integrations with the top IWMS, Space Booking, Workplace Analytics, Building Management, Wayfinding, and Calendaring platforms in the industry, you can integrate your occupancy data across your workplace applications, and use a single view to reduce costs, improve space usage, and automate critical workflows.

Data Architecture, Privacy, and Security

To ensure privacy and security, VergeSense passes a low resolution view from the optical sensor directly into a Computer Vision Machine Learning processor.

The Machine Learning algorithm is trained used 10s of 10,000s of reference views to recognize objects and people.

The image resolution of the view is too low for any form of facial recognition or reading of text. This low resolution is by intent to ensure that no personal identification information is captured.

The Machine Learning process generates a JSON formatted event. The event message contains no contextual location information.
Only information about the sensor, the detection status, the timestamp and the space type identification is contained in the message.

The detection information is transported via HTTPS/MQTT in a TLS 1.2 encrypted message.

The message is transferred via an Ethernet PoE connection or WiFi, whichever is the preferred form of connectivity.

The occupancy information is visualized in the VergeSense cloud dashboard, where it can be augmented with contextual information from other sources to provide a spatially intelligent view of space occupancy.

APIs are available to export the spatial occupancy information to other tools that may wish to receive this information.
